They perform small incision cataract surgery?
Not all cataract surgeons have the training and experience to know how and when to use this procedure to avoid the need for stitches. At Pepose Vision Institute, we choose the procedure best suited for your eye condition, in order to speed visual recovery with little or no discomfort. - back to top
They are experienced in using topical anesthesia?
At Pepose Vision Institute, we have adopted the latest, safest approach to anesthesia. Whenever medically indicated, we prefer to use eye drops rather than a needle to dispense anesthesia under the eyeball. We do this to avoid the bleeding, bruising and inadvertent eye damage that a needle can cause. Visual recovery begins immediately since the eye muscles are not paralyzed. Our approach is to choose the safest, most comfortable treatment plan for your medical condition. - back to top
Other doctors recommend them?
When MDs were surveyed and asked "to whom would you refer your family members if they needed vision correction surgery," they have consistently answered Pepose Vision Institute, earning us recognition year after year in Best Doctors in America and America's Top Docs. - back to top
They have experience with lens implants that can reduce your dependence on glasses?
Many cataract surgeons continue to offer only the standard "monofocal" lens implant, which requires a patient to wear glasses after surgery. The handful that begun to offer the new, FDA-approved "multifocal" lens implants have typically been trained to use only one brand. Pepose Vision Institute is the only provider in the region to have had ample experience with all three brands available. Because each one provides a different optimal range of vision, PVI's experience translates into the right implant (sometimes a different one in each eye!) for your vision needs and lifestyle. - back to top
They do more than cataract surgery?
PVI does more than cataract surgery. We will evaluate whether your vision problem is actually due to cataracts or to another vision-compromising condition. If there is a problem, we have the know-how to treat it, and will rarely inconvenience you by referring you to another doctor in another office. Our goal is to assure that cataract surgery is right for you and that you will enjoy the full benefit of this procedure for a lifetime. - back to top
They will tell you if you're NOT an ideal cataract patient?
Cataract surgery should only be performed if the presence of a cataract significantly compromises your ability to perform everyday work or leisure activities. At PVI, we are not afraid to say "not now" to patients if we think their cataracts are not mature enough for removal, or if there are untreated eye problems that will interfere with restoring your vision through cataract surgery. Sure we could make more money by operating on every patient, sooner versus later. But that's not what we do. - back to top
They will be directly involved in your pre-operative work-up and your treatment planning?
Some cataract surgeons treat cataract surgery as if it is an everyday event. We treat it as it should be: delicate surgery on your eyes! Our surgeons are integrally involved in your pre-operative exam and treatment planning. Which, frankly, are essential parts of your cataract surgery. No two cataract treatment plans are exactly the same, because each patient has their own unique eye anatomy and vision needs. Our pre-operative exam is extensive during which time your eyes are measured and re-measured using a variety of diagnostic tests, to ensure a precise, customized surgical plan using the correct lens implant. - back to top
They use advanced methods to select the right lens implant for your eyes?
Some cataract surgeons choose from a limited set of lens implants or manufacturers. At Pepose Vision Institute, we find the right lens implant to give you the very best vision outcome possible. This requires an intensive pre-operative exam to evaluate the length of your eye, ocular structures, thickness of your lens and shape of your cornea. Our surgeons use all of this information to identify the lens that's best for you. - back to top
They are a cornea sub-specialist?
Most cataract surgeons are "general ophthalmologists" who have not had additional training and experience in dealing with cornea problems. Cornea training can result in better cataract outcomes because the appropriate lens implant depends crucially on the shape and condition of your cornea. For example, if you have had previous cornea surgery, such as vision correction surgery, this needs to be factored in when calculating which lens implant is best for you. At PVI, your cataract surgeon has spent additional years training to assure you the very best vision cataract surgery outcome possible. - back to top
Their are up on the new technologies in the field?
If you know what technologies are coming down the pike, you are in a better position to advise your patients to wait until the ideal technology is available to treat a specific condition. Pepose Vision Institute is at the forefront of new and developing eye technologies, working closely with leaders in eye care technologies around the world. It knows whether today's cataract lenses are right for you, or whether another product is on the horizon that will provide superior results for your unique vision situation. - back to top
They are available to you, even after office hours?
Ever try to reach your M.D. after office hours? You want the peace of mind from knowing you can reach your surgeon if you have questions or concerns, especially after surgery. At PVI, our surgeons are on-call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond to patients' concerns. You will never hear "hang up and call 911 for an emergency." - back to top
They are committed to your vision for a lifetime?
At Pepose Vision Institute, we don't view you simply as a surgical case. Once you have had surgery at PVI, you become part of the PVI family. Our patients come to us for emergency and regular eye care needs, confident that we will do everything necessary to protect the vision that has been restored through cataract surgery. - back to top
