Dr. Mujtaba Qazi directs the Clinical Studies at Pepose Vision Institute. He also teaches Ophthalmology at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, while instructing cornea and vision correction surgery at the University of Missouri–St. Louis School of Optometry. As a board-certified specialist, he focuses on cornea and vision correction surgery.
Growing up in New York City, Dr. Qazi attended Stuyvesant High School, known for its strong emphasis on math and science. His commitment to a medical career led him to New York University’s BA-MD program, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Medical Doctorate. During his time at NYU, he was named a Presidential Scholar. Later, he completed his residency at Boston University School of Medicine, serving as Chief Resident. His subspecialty training in cornea and vision correction took place at Pepose Vision Institute, where he gained hands-on experience in laser, cornea, and cataract surgeries.
Dr. Qazi holds certifications in the VISX Star S4, Bausch & Lomb Technolas, and Alcon Autonomous excimer lasers. Notably, he was the first vision correction specialist in St. Louis to receive certification for VISX’s topography-linked customized LASIK therapy. Moreover, he is among the few cornea specialists in the region trained in the latest corneal transplant technology, DSAEK.
At Pepose Vision Institute, Dr. Qazi actively leads various research projects, focusing on customized laser vision correction, surgical treatments for presbyopia, and cataract surgery outcomes. He has authored several abstracts, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters. Additionally, he frequently speaks at local and national conferences, sharing his expertise with a wider audience.
Dr. Qazi’s professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons. Recently, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare recognized his contributions to the medical field.
