Trifocal Lens

PanOptix® IOL

PanOptix® IOL is an intraocular lens designed to provide clear vision for near, intermediate, and far distances without glasses after cataract surgery.

It’s called “The Next-Generation Trifocal” because it is designed for correction at all three distances.

Are you or someone you love considering cataract surgery? If you are, it’s important to consider all the options available to you. In the case of cataract surgery, this means knowing what the options are for intraocular lenses (IOLs).

IOLs are an important part of cataract surgery because the natural lens of the eye is removed during the procedure and replaced with an IOL. Pepose Vision Institute is proud to announce that we are now offering the revolutionary new AcrySof IQ PanOptix trifocal IOL!

What makes the PanOptix trifocal lens so revolutionary? Part of it is because it’s called “the next generation trifocal” meaning that it provides correction at all distances: near, intermediate, and far away.

What Is A Trifocal Lens?

Like a multifocal lens, a trifocal lens has many sections that are set to different alternating refractive powers. How a trifocal lens differs is that it allows for excellent vision at all distances.

This includes seeing up-close, at intermediate distances, and far away. This is possible because the alternating rings contain sections that are set for these distances.

In a multifocal lens, they are only set for up-close and far-away vision, while in a trifocal lens, the alternating rings have sections for all three of these distances.

What Makes The PanOptix Trifocal IOL So Special?

For those that don’t want to wear glasses or contacts after cataract surgery, the PanOptix trifocal IOL may be the best choice. Other benefits of this IOL include:

  • No blurry zones ensuring patients never need to strain to focus, regardless of what distance they are looking at
  • See the world with brighter and more vivid colors than ever before
  • Enhanced vision quality and range resulting in sharper vision and being less likely to need glasses
  • The ability to see well in all lighting, including dim lighting, bright lights, low light, and even daylight
  • Experience less glare around bright lights

The PanOptix trifocal IOL features proprietary ENLIGHTEN Optical Technology. This means there is never a breakdown in vision quality when looking at different distances.

Using ENLIGHTEN, the extended intermediate focal point is redistributed to the distance focal point. The PanOptix trifocal IOL is the only lens design with this ability. It has a 40 cm (near) and 60 cm (intermediate) focal point without ever affecting distance vision.

In most people, intermediate distance activities occur at a relaxed arm’s length distance away. On average, this is about 60 cm.

Common intermediate distance activities include:

  • Using a computer
  • Seeing clearly in the mirror while shaving
  • Playing board games
  • Using a smartphone
  • Reading a book

The PanOptix trifocal IOL can handle these activities, along with many others!

Who Is A Good Candidate For The PanOptix Trifocal IOL?

The only way to know for sure if you are a good candidate for the PanOptix trifocal IOL is to schedule a cataract screening with your eye care provider.

For most people, the PanOptix trifocal IOL is a good choice if you are looking to complete tasks with a full range of vision without needing glasses. The PanOptix trifocal IOL is also approved for patients who have astigmatism and presbyopia.
