What happens to the eye if you wear glasses with more power than you need?

We recently had a patient ask what happens to the eye if over corrected? For example, if one were to wear glasses twice as powerful as needed, would that weaken the eyes over time? Or would it just cause eye strain?

Over correction can give some patients a headache but will have no permanent effect on the vision.
